What a day!!
Woke up to a magnificent view of Mont Blanc.
Skied with the instructors in the morning, with the wind having calmed some groups went over to Les Arcs 1950 and 2000. Group 1 skied part of the Aguille Rouge 3220 metres high. Very impressive.
After a longer lunch stop, in view of the busy day ahead, the pupils skied in friendship groups mixing all levels of ability (which worked really well).
At 1545 hours half the groups went on to Ten Pin Bowling in Arcs 1800 while the other skied on and then swapped over.
All pupils, teachers, hotel staff and Gareth took part in a floodlit skiing followed by an excellent torchlight descent from Arcs 1800 and down to the hotel in Vallandry. A good dinner and then off to bed.
What a wonderful day indeed.
Staff and pupils working well together, great fun and some great moments.
Cold and windy conditions meant the top lifts were not running and therefore we were unable to ski to Arc 2000. We stayed low in the valley taking advantage of the shelter of the tree lined runs. A hot chocolate stop in the afternoon finished off another great day’s skiing.
After dinner we had a quiz night followed by a 5 minute poetry challenge. A slightly censored version from Gareth’s Growlers is printed below.
At first we struggled on the slope
But now we are beginning to cope
The snow is fresh unlike our faces
In Les Arcs we explore wonderful places
It’s very good ’cause we don’t have to stop
And tie our laces
We Look forward to the food
It really puts us in the mood
And is normally always very good
We have arrived. After a long journey on Saturday we eventually arrived at our Hotel in Les Arc about 7.00pm. A late Ski fit session was followed by dinner and an early night.
Our first day’s skiing has been excellent, great snow, good weather and well groomed pistes. The students have been skiing in 4 groups of different ability levels and attended their first lesson with the French Ski School this morning. The feedback from the instructors at the end of the day was excellent. The great skiing continued in the afternoon when the groups were led by Mr Pilarski, Mr Brown, Mrs MacFadyen and Mrs Leach.
Dinner was followed by a treasure trail around the village at the end of which everyone was well and truly exhausted, ready for bed and looking forward to Day 2.
