Behind the Desk

Before I tuck into my turkey and those sausages wrapped in bacon that I love, there is still a lot to do in the school. I am meeting with the Parent Council tonight, next Wednesday sees me in Glasgow as a Headteacher rep on a committee looking at the assessment arrangement for the new social subjects courses, on the same evening we have the Christmas Concert, the next day is the S1-S3 disco, Monday 21st is the Carol Concert in St Michael’s and the next day is the S4-S6 disco.

So I am very busy along with lots of other colleagues who will help at these events. I hope that they will be well supported by pupils and parents and prove successful. I am sure they will be.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.

David A MacKenzie

LAA News - School Fundraising Website

LAA has registered the school on a fund-raising web-site. If you wish to shop on the internet you can log on to whichever company you want by going through the following:
www.schoolfundraising.org.uk/linlithgow-academy
(obviously it should be typed continuously and not as above) and you raise money for the school. The more people who use it the more the school makes! This link can also be found permanently in the ‘Links’ section on this website.

Email Addresses

The letter asking for email details was issued to pupils 3 weeks ago. We have around 680 families in the school and on the basis that families, no matter how many children they have at the school, would reply only once we have 400 returns. It is important that we get as close to a 100% return as possible because issuing material electronically has to be an improvement or it is not worth doing.

Questions. Have you seen the letter? Have you responded?

If you have the letter but not responded please do so as soon as possible. If you have not got the letter please ask your child to pick one up from the school office or click on the following link to view it on this website: Electronic Communications Post

Mr MacKenzie told LA News “I feel like issuing my version of the Lord Kitchener poster where I point and say “Your school needs you”.  Please give us your views on this.

Children in Need

On Friday 20 November the pupils in S6 engaged in the annual Dick Turpin impersonation by holding up innocent people and demanding money. However, unlike old Dick, the money was going to a good cause – Children in Need. This year they raised £1329.10.

Scientist Visits

Dr Elizabeth Stevenson from the University of Edinburgh came into school during Chemistry Week and met with Higher and Advanced Higher pupils. She enthused the pupils with information on current areas of topical research as well as showing them experiments using liquid nitrogen.

S4 Prelims

At a recent meeting of the Senior Management Team in the school there was a review of the organisation etc of the S4 Prelims (and S3 English). It was reported that this was the best behaved and most focused group in several years. Whatever the results may reveal it was pleasing to see how seriously the pupils took the exams.
