Pupil Support Aims
Pupil Support at Linlithgow Academy
The Pupil Support department at Linlithgow Academy provides an integrated service that provides both academic and pastoral support provision for all our pupils. Academic support is provided through our Pupil Support teachers and pupil pastoral support is generally provided by a full-time pastoral support team. These teams work closely together to ensure the needs of every child are met.
PUPIL SUPPORT TEACHER ROLE:
- PSE teacher for all appropriate House classes
- monitors overall pupil attainment in classes
- discusses and identifies any issues that affect a pupil’s learning
- implement strategies and support to ensure every pupil works to their full potential.
- Compiles an overview of a pupil’s curriculum to ensure its appropriateness
- Establishes close contact with teachers and will proactively contact home when required.
- First point of contact for parents regarding any aspect of the teaching and learning process within the school
PASTORAL SUPPORT WORKER ROLE
- Available at any point during the school day for pupil/parent consultation
- Monitor attendance, latecoming
- Social issues: friendship, bullying, self esteem
- Links with external agencies/compile referrals
The Pupil Support teacher will also get involved if issues outside the classroom are having a serious and detrimental affect on a pupil’s learning and overall achievement in school.
Meeting Pupil Needs
These objectives derive from the belief that Pupil Support is a natural and continuous part of school organisation and not simply a response to specific occurrences. All members of the House team have a role to play in ensuring these objectives are met.
