Many thanks to all the families who collected and handed in these vouchers. In total 11,755 were donated and with the ones we didn’t use from last year we had a grand total of 19,093 to “cash in”.
That means we were able to acquire 1 Canon High End Power Shot digital camera, 1 camera tripod and carrying case and 2 x 2Gb SD memory cards. We have also been able to carry forward 6,423 vouchers to add to next year’s total. LA News wishes to thank the staff in the office for collecting the vouchers and Chris Morrison in the library for collating the totals and organising the purchase of the equipment.
Many people who work outside education think this is a quiet time of year for secondary teachers because half the school is on study leave. This could not be further from the truth. The deputes and myself are working full tilt on next year’s aims and objectives including the timetable. It is the first time I have experienced a school timetable being finished in Thailand! Teachers and Principal Teachers have Curriculum for Excellence to keep them focused as well as the “normal” (what is normal?) pressures of preparation for next year.
Tomorrow I am going to the Scottish Cup final to cheer on Ross County, my mother’s team. ‘Mon the Staggies. Imagine what Dingwall will be like if they win! (I guess they just had to drown their sorrows - Ed)

A season of great success ended in disappointment for the Under 15 and Under 18 teams.
The Under 15s lost their final against a physically stronger Earlston High team 29-19.
The Under 18s who led for most of their final against Wellington School from Ayr had the agony of losing 26-24 with the west coasters scoring a few minutes from the end.
Both teams want to use LA News to thank all the supporters who turned up at the games and their coaches for the help all year.
Uniform order forms for next session are now available and orders will be available from the school during the summer holidays. Please note we now have a Linlithgow Academy badged PE Performance T-shirt available.
As we start to enter tight budgetary times everything is being counted down to the last penny! This includes school transport.
Pupils have to have valid bus passes and colleagues who supervise this service have said they will be checking the buses more regularly and NO PASS MEANS NO BUS. Get your form from the school office, fill it in and return it to the school office. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
During Biology lessons over the past few weeks class 2B2 has been working with the scientists from Scottish Earth Sciences Education Forum. This work has been supported by Scottish Power, the Scottish Government and Learning Teaching Scotland.
In 3 lessons the pupils were introduced to the problems of over production of Carbon Dioxide considering where it comes from, why and the different ways in which it can be controlled. Part of the project included building, in true “Blue Peter” fashion, with lots of plasticine, marbles, straws and water, a model of a carbon capture and storage facility. At this stage 10 of the pupils went to Linlithgow Primary to work on aspects of the project with P7.
The final part of the project revolved around science communications and 2B2 went round other classes informing pupils and staff about CCS (carbon capture and storage) models. They were also, along with some P7 pupils, invited to take part in the Edinburgh International Science Festival where they presented in front of an audience including officials from the Government and university scientists.
LA News spoke to Mrs Littlejohn who led the project and she said “It was a great opportunity for the pupils to work with operational scientists. They experienced the real world and all their practical activities made the learning come alive.
I was so proud of their work with the primary pupils and their performance at the Science festival was brilliant.”
The Newey family were busy recently with both William and Alice competing in the Scottish International Open Karate competition.
William gained 3rd place in the over 16 (under 76kg) group while Alice fought well in her category but retired hurt in the second round.
The school took an active part in the recent keep “Scotland Beautiful Spring Clean” campaign.
Pupils from 1B1, 2B1, 2W1, 2W2, 2K1 and 2K2 worked in groups clearing the back of the playing fields close to the canal, an area of the cemetery and the streets between the school and the shop at Braehead. Over 3 wheelie bins were filled!
